ABSTRACT
Objectives:
The images from patients` medical examination are generally stored as a form of compressed files. The images in compressed format can improve storing skill and transmission speed. However, excessively compressed format may lower the quality of image and reduce the value essential to effective diagnoses.
Methods:
In this study, the image was classified into computed radiography (CR) and digital radiography (DR) depending on the way of generating the image. These two class of images were classified based on the image sizes, 14 × 17 inch images and 10 × 12 inch images and compared in order to find out the most efficient Q factor of each class of images.
Results:
The results show that the compression ratio is different depending on the type of image generation methods and Image Plate (IP).
Conclusions:
Therefore we conclude that, in compressing the medical image, we meed to use the appropriate methods in order to maximize the quality and efficiency of medical image processing.
Key words: Medical image, Q factor, Computed radiography, Digital radiography
