A Study on Effect of the Elderly`s External Image to Successful Aging according to Health Level

ABSTRACT
Objectives:
The purpose of this study was to find out how to affect of the elderly`s recognition and action on body image to successful aging between high level group of perceived health and low level group.
Methods:
The 297 survey samples were divided into high level group and low level group in terms of the perceived health. T-test was exploited to see the differences of extemal image and successful aging between two groups. Correlation and hierarchical regression were applied to see how the socio-economic and the external image influence the successful aging.
Results:
First, results showed the high level group of perceived health was significantly higher perception of self-other recognition, external image, appearance management and the elderly`s perception of successful aging than the low level group. Second, the high level group of perceived health showed the higher effect of socio-economic variables and the extemal image`s perception and management to the successful aging than the low level group. However, the low level group of perceived health perceived the external image and management was important to the successful aging.
Conclusions:
It is suggested to develop some programs and policies for improvement of external image and management in the context of successful aging.
