ABSTRACT
Objectives:
The purpose of this study is to find out the difference of oral hygiene performance ability according to toothbrushing instruction methods.
Methods:
We conducted survey and patient hygiene performance index teston 150 patients, who visited one of 3 dental clinics in the national capital region and did not have any oral disease.
Results:
This study conducted logistic regression analysis to find out major factors affecting oral hygiene performance ability. The subjects in B group, trained by direct instruction of toothbrushing practice, showed a statistically significant difference as they were 3.08 times more likely to have oral hygiene performance ability above the average, compared to A group, who were trained by dentiform model. Moreover, the subjects in C group, trained by toothbrushing instruction with disclosing solution, also showed statistically significant difference by being 4.13 times more likely to have oral hygiene performance ability above the average compared to A group.
Conclusions:
According to the aforementioned results, C group was enhanced the most, so it was proved that toothbrushing instruction with disclosing solution was the most effective method to improve oral hygiene performance ability, which guarantees voluntary management of one`s oral hygiene.
Key words: Toothbrushing instruction, Oral hygiene performance ability, Patient hygiene performance index
