ABSTRACT
Objectives:
This study was done to explore and identify the factors of post traumatic stress disorder among verbal violence experienced nurses.
Methods:
The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design using a convenience sampling. Data collection was done using self-questionnaire with 137 nurses. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, Spearman correlation coefficient, and linear multiple regression.
Results:
Study participants reported low level of post traumatic stress disorder (impact of events scale: mean=20.74), but 36.5% of the study participants reported higher level than moderate. The 17.6% of variance in post traumatic stress disorder was significantly explained by satisfaction about the incident handling (β=-0.24, p=0.005).
Conclusions:
Findings of this study provide that the most important factors in explaining post traumatic stress disorder of verbal violence experienced nurses is the satisfaction about the incident handling. Based on the findings of this study, the support of the agency for the nurse after experiencing verbal violence must be important considered.
