A Comparative Analysis of Suicide Characteristics by Age Group in Korea

ABSTRACT
Objectives:
The current study provides the suicide prevention strategy by analyzing six age group from echo generation to Old-old generation.
Methods:
The study uses multi year data (2001-2011) of mortality from National Statistical Office. The suicide factor analysis of famous entertainers and college students was based on the pre 30 days, post 30 days and 60 days from the date of death.
Results:
The average number of the suicide seems similar patterns between Baby boom generation and Forgotten generation as well as between Echo generation and Old-old generation. The result from Forgotten generation shows that male suicides are 3.32 times than female suicides. Post-boomer generations shows the results of average of 8.03 kill themselves by everyday. The increasing rate from 2001 to 2011 shows that Echo generation has the highest increasing rate by 5.12 times among all the groups.
Conclusions:
It should be necessary to create a systematic database, to make a network of beavered family, to educate the gate keepers, to support the social care service and social safety to prevent suicide by age group. To minimize the Copycat suicide (Werther Effect), it needs to enforce the self-imposed controls of media. Finally, it need to analyze Big Data to provide the prevent suicide strategy by national level.
